Textile Matters

Konstnärernas Kollektivverkstad Textiltryck Malmö som förkortas Textiltryck Malmö är en ideell förening vars syfte är att erbjuda yrkesverk­samma konstnärer, konsthantverkare och formgivare arbetsytor och teknisk utrustning för framställning av i huvudsak textilt präglade konstverk.

Textiltryck Malmö bildades 1983 och drivs idag med stöd av Malmö stad och Region Skåne. Textiltryck Malmö är en konstnärsstyrd medlemsorganisation med ca 50 anslutna konstnärer och formgivare. Föreningen har en styrelse bestående av fem personer som arbetar med driften av verkstaden, gemensamma utställningsprojekt, miljöförbättringar och att synliggöra vår yrkeskår. I verksamheten finns för närvarande tre anställda.

Textiltryck Malmö arbetar dessutom i projektform för att utvecklas som plattform för den textila konsten på olika sätt.

Dyveke Zadig works with idea-based art and design. The working name of her project for SSDD 2022 is - Souls - and the basic idea of this idea is based on people's conditions to meet in the contemporary social structure. The development of the world's increasing ill health and isolation requirements means that everything that has been a well-known pattern is brought to a head and new patterns are formed.

 Karin Lindh works as an artist and textile designer. In her work, Karin is often inspired by nature and its organic expression. In the project "Textile Matters", she explores new ways of expression and her approach to the working method.

To be guided by the desire and not know where it leads but still follow along.

Marie Wetterstrand, born 1979. She works as a textile artist in Malmö and works a lot with screen printing in four-color based on photographs, but also with words, crochet and embroidery.

Jenny Frank works with textile art in weaves, screen printing and objects. In the Textile Matters project, textile techniques with clay as materials and objects that form patterns are investigated. The clay provides the opportunity to work three-dimensionally and with a textile perspective. The textile techniques are visible in the decorative surfaces of the product. Objects form patterns and weaving techniques emphasize pattern effects.

Jytte Olsson is a graphic designer and often works with patterns of plants that are graphic in their expression such as thistles and artichokes. My collections span many different materials, in addition to textiles also patterns on ceramics, prints on paper and interior products such as trays and tray tables.

In the project Textile Matters, I investigate how I adapt my textile pattern Stixig when it is to be reproduced on ceramics and corten steel.

Marie Ledendal is a textile designer and senior lecturer in applied visual communication at Lund University. She has a practice-based philosophy lecturer in smart textiles and textile design. Her research investigates how art, fashion and materiality act as strategic communication carriers and how visual representation is purposefully used as meaning-making tools.

The project is the start of an ongoing collaboration with Cecilia Fredriksson, professor of ethnology at Lund University, who, among other things, researches seaweed as an experience and future resource.

Marie has investigated how seaweed and textile printing techniques meet each other. Projects have been based on the material nori, a seaweed-based material that is often used for sushi. The material experiments investigate how norin expression and fragility meet printing techniques such as screen printing and transfer techniques such as foiling, lamination and flock printing. The surveys also take in saw pliers and bladderwrack that are harvested locally at the kusen in Malmö, and examine the shape of seaweed through clay, drawing and watercolor. In the project Cecilia and Marie explore the meeting between expressions and experiences of seaweed.
