Humans + Structure = Formality
What does physical and sensuous proximity to a certain place mean for the perception of it? A lot, naturally! When Wingårdhs took on the work of refining Magasin 211 in Varvsstaden, it was with the knowledge that we would use the premises ourselves. Did we therefore treat it differently? The answer is of course no, all reuse projects require the same understanding of its historical and future use.
However, through the proximity to the site, we were able to penetrate deeper into its layers and increase the understanding of what was possible. Through sustainable material choices, careful additions, and not least in the extensive recycling of bricks, old windows and furnishings, we have been able to preserve the building's unique character and cultural-historical value, while giving the house a new purpose and a longer life. For us, the Magasin 211 project has not been completed, but can be constantly ongoing due to our presence on site.
Magasin 211 was awarded the Malmö City Building Prize 2021, with the verdict: "Based on the building's character traits and a circular attitude to materials, fixtures and colors, a unique and sensuous experience has been created."
