Urban art + Participatory design = A Democratic Experience of Art
What can an Urban Art Center be? The closeness between art and the city represents for us this year’s theme of proximity.
The project addresses the accessibility of art to everyone and how we can design places that facilitate a democratic experience of art. After some time of collaboration between the non profit associations International Designers and Architects in Sweden (IDAS) and Centrum För Urban Konst (CFUK), we planned a series of interviews and workshops to explore perceptions of urban art, public spaces and how they interact within Malmö. From this participatory design approach we seek to conceptualize the possibilities for an urban art center that CFUK is in the process of establishing in Malmö. We will interview three different target groups about how they perceive and imagine art in the public space. Simultaneously we will hold workshops with young artists and other participants focussed on investigating urban art from an architectural perspective. During SSDD2022 we will present the initial interviews of this participatory design process in video format as well as material produced in collaboration with CFUK. Through this exhibition we intend to reach as many people as possible and invite anyone who is interested to participate in this process.
