Material + Design = Cook your own bio-polymer!

Welcome to a three-hour hands-on workshop in Material Driven Design. The workshop leaders in Product Design at Malmö University guide you in how to produce your own bio-polymer.

The workshop will be held in K3's (Malmö University's) exhibition space at Lokstallarna. After a short introduction to bio-polymer and material-driven design, you, together with Malmö University, cook your own bio-polymer based on the local resources of potatoes and algae.

Material Driven Design (MDD) can be described as a design process initiated through the exploration of materials, or where a material is designed, cultivated or developed through an exploratory design process. In this case, local waste streams are investigated and how they can be used to create sustainable materials for the future.

Maximum 15 participants.

Here, traditional scientific and academic theory are combined with artistic methods and practical elements. Students work with new media, design, culture and a wide range of arts.

A hallmark of K3 is the collaboration with companies, organisations and other parties. Students work with real-life cases through projects and assignments.

K3 attracts researchers in several different disciplines, from design and information technology to media research and cultural sciences. Research projects can involve anything from participant design and physical computing to social media, cartoons and questions about culture and class. Much of the research is done together with external parties.
