Crafts + Technology = Digital jewelry

Proximity, closeness in space, time or relationship. "Digital jewelry" is a project that examines how digital technologies that have influenced the method of production and design of jewelry. Our Proximity, or, our closeness, to individuals as well as production has changed drastically in recent times, this project explores how today's technology can be used to reduce the distance to partners, production, exposition as well as consumption.

"Digital jewelry" explores how designers in a time of physical distance can use technology to collaborate with other designers on a global scale. How can we today produce locally using additive production methods, to reduce production waste and shipping to build a sustainable future. How can we use digital platforms to spread information on a global scale, so that someone on the other side of the world can get an experience of a digital piece of jewelry.

Digital jewelery is a research project where 20 jewelery from the National Museum's collection has been analyzed from a technological perspective, and asks the question: how have technological innovations affected our visual culture and our way of creating.

20 pieces of jewelery were selected and they represent various technological advances that have taken place from the industrial revolution until today.

I will present one of these pieces of jewelry to you here in this project film.
